AS YOU LIKED IT
Well, our production of AS YOU LIKE IT is coming to a close this weekend and, judging from audience reaction and ticket sales, the shows WAS "as you liked it" (pun intended). Richard Baird did a great job at the helm of this production and the cast was stellar. The Arizona Republic was glowing in its review of the acting, in particular. Kerry Lengel wrote "...the cast is excellent", "The acting is top notch", and "Kaitlin O'Neal is marvelous as Rosalind...bounding about the stage, she caroms from girlish giddiness to boyish bluster and back again, without ever shattering the illusion that she is making up every word as she goes." Without the skilled and talented Shakespearean actors on our stage, we would be nothing. Also, very satisfying was the acclaim the company got at the recent AriZoni Awards--Arizona's recognition of excellence in Theatre. Southwest Shakespeare Company garnered the top awards, including Best Overall Production ("The Merry Wives Of Windsor"), Best Actor (Richard Baird- two years in a row now), Best Actress (Sarah Wolter), Best Supporting Actress (Jenae Thomas), and yours truly for Best Director ("The Taming of The Shrew"). This adds up to Southwest Shakespeare Company garnering Best Actor and/or Supporting Actor Awards for SEVEN STRAIGHT YEARS. I think, truly, Southwest Shakespeare Company can rightly be called "Home of the Best Actors"! So, to all who haven't yet seen it---if you haven't got tickets for today's final shows of AS YOU LIKE IT, you missed a great one. Coming up, THE WINTER'S TALE, with Richard Baird directing AND acing, OTHELLO, TARTUFFE, AND MERCHANT OF VENICE. Get on board now---it's not too late to SUBSCRIBE to the best deal in town.
